Ferruh Başağa (b. 1914, Karagümrük, Istanbul[1] - d. December 24, 2010[2], Istanbul) was a Turkish painter. He is one of the prominent artists who laid the foundation for Turkish painting during the Republic era. In the 1940s, he turned to abstract painting and became one of the pioneers of abstraction in Turkish art.[3] Starting from 1970, he established the stained glass and mosaic workshops at the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts and worked as a lecturer at the institution for ten years.[4] Having held 75 solo exhibitions and with artworks displayed in museums and collections worldwide, from New Delhi to Munich, Paris to New York, the integration of his art with architecture, especially through large-scale panels, is one of the significant aspects of his artistic endeavors.
